Our story
Made slowly, in a place that has made porcelain for a thousand years.
mizi studio is a small porcelain studio working with a family kiln in Jingdezhen, China. We make quiet pieces for everyday rituals — a stem in a bud vase, rings in a shallow dish, tea in a cup that fits your hand.
The place
Jingdezhen, where clay becomes porcelain.
For centuries, Jingdezhen has been known for porcelain. The clay is local, the glazes are mixed by eye, and the kiln runs on wood, gas and patience. We work with a small family workshop that has been making vessels for three generations.
We visit the studio, choose the glazes, and bring back small batches. Nothing is mass-produced. If a piece sells out, it may take a few weeks before the next firing.
The process
Thrown, trimmed, glazed, fired twice.
Each piece begins on the wheel. It is trimmed by hand when the clay is leather-hard, then brushed with glaze and fired to 1300°C. A second firing sets the glaze and brings out the color.
Because the glaze is mixed in small batches, the speckles and shifts in tone change from one firing to the next. We keep those variations. They are the record of a hand at work.
The objects
Small enough to live with.
We design for the edges of a room: the shelf, the bedside table, the windowsill, the sink. Pieces that hold one stem, a pair of earrings, a spoon, a thought.
Our porcelain is food-safe and free of lead and cadmium. The stoneware is sealed and finished for everyday use. Hand wash to keep the glaze bright; treat each piece like a small, useful thing.
